Project 02 - First Sketch Model for Blade

This is me just attempting a possible shape as an outline for my final model. made with cardboard and obviously no transparency, all it looks at is the shape and not the added aesthetics of the transparent plastic.

Project 02 - Sketched Ideas

With the new thought of doing a blade shape from my blade model I began to do some sketched and see what Ideas or angles I could find.

I really liked the kind of looks that these sketches gave and this confirmed my Idea to go with the blade.
the Idea on the bottom left is the one that closest resembles my original piece from Solidworks and 3ds Max except that it is cut off to give a free standing base.

Project 02 - New Precedents

Like the first project I'm now using blades as my precedent or really my digital model. but I also want to bring in an element of nature or maybe more of a nature pattern, to some how incorporate it into my final model.

Project 02 - Change in Plan

After a bit of thought I realised I couldnt really relate my spiral Idea to any of my models with from my last project While we were aloud to create something new I decided to go back to my models and just look at some possible precedent from those 81.

After looking through all the 81 I couldn't see anything I really wanted to go off, and then I thought of my Original shape that I took into 3ds Max. The Model that I took in was a blade shape that I had created in solid works from an image of a similar blade. I thought of maybe bring this to life as my design.

Project 02 - Spiral Sketch Model

This was just a very quick model seeing what a spiral might look like if I tried to make it using the lazercutter. I don't feel this is a very good model and I think allot more development needs to be made.

Project 02 - Possible Precedents for New Model

An Idea i have is an Eiffel tower type shape, like a  four legged pyramid that spirals upwards. I would relate this to one of my spiralling models.

Project 02 - Lazercut Precedents

For some precedent images of lazercut models I looked on Google images for lazercut art and came across some quite cool different pieces.

Project 01 - The Final Hero Iteration

Hero Image

To me this is the well represented final of my words and images, you can very clearly see elements of all three 'natural' 'blade' and 'balance'. the colour rendered elements go hand in hand to form this very alive looking alien type sculpture. The natural curves and elegance you can see coming through as it curves towards its head. Like that of my caterpillar it has the effect of a limbless 'S' curved creature topped off with bug like antennae. The middle section, elegant as it is, portrays that of the blade. Its sculpted jagged edges, sharp yet graceful give the sense of danger that a blade might give. With perfect symmetry this iteration is perfectly balanced, there is no obvious hierarchy and each element is evenly spread giving the work balance to its aesthetic side.

The Given Environment

I wanted a background that represented this models dominant qualities. I want a landscape as natural and as peaceful as the iteration. Using Google images I stumbled across this image which pull that exactly off. The motionless greenery and barely moving water when combined with the model emit a luminous and airy feel as if almost alien, trying to camouflage into the environment. As the model sits it is floating just above the water, its reflection aiding in the effect that at any moment it might come to life. The iteration itself doesn't stand out, it is almost, overpowered by the environment it sits as part of the image, as part of nature where it belongs.

Project 01 - The 81 Final Image

Final 81

This is my final 81 iterations. I have laid it out this way because I wanted to show my development and the fact that I came from two different angles. Starting out as a distant border, my iterations make their way around the page then swerving into the foreground to my final iteration to show my 'natural' and 'blade' like iteration development that lead to my final I colour coded them with the colours used in my final.
The slightly transparent green flies back with the 'natural' iterations to represent the calm colourfulness of nature and the green that it so commonly expresses. The 'blades' going back are represented by the grey metal colour, the grey is light and soft as it assists in creating a more natural and also balanced object. My iterations for 'balance' have been spread between them as I found that most of them could fit into the other two categories and they into it. I wanted to keep it fairly basic, by just using two colours your vision doesn't become juggled by the multiple colours and your focus follows the images. I kept the background white as to not distract from the object. And then very faintly in the background is an enlarged image of the beginning model to give reference to the changes been made.
